Youth Ministry Stream

The Kensington Ministry Experience Scheme has a focused youth ministry stream within its programme, in churches drawn from across the traditions of the Church of England.
The churches in the Kensington Area have a particular focus on strengthening our work amongst young people.  With a number of specialist churches working in this area, and strong commitment from the Bishop and others to build this part of church life, it is a place where exciting things are happening. This programme is an ideal way to explore this aspect of Christian ministry while helping us in this part of London engage more effectively with teenagers and young adults.
The commitment is full time, beginning in early September 2020.
The experience will vary from church to church, but work could include helping with leading youth groups/sessions, visiting schools, planning and leading courses, preparation and administration, as well as supervision and discussion time with clergy, etc. This option is for those who have a heart for young people – though anyone considering the possibility of ordination would be encouraged to join the Scheme, and appropriate support around discernment would be offered, if it was required.
If you are interested in exploring Christian mission and ministry with teenagers and young adults, we would love to hear from you.
Participants on this stream will be accommodated at Lee Abbey
If you're interested in working with young people as part of our ministry experience scheme, send in an application - we'd love to hear from you.

What we can offer

  • Free accommodation
  • A monthly allowance (plus all ministry-related expenses)
  • The opportunity to study theology in both a practical and academic way – drawing on the expertise and resources of local clergy and the local St Mellitus College
  • Regular supervision and support from your Placement Supervisor (usually a vicar or pioneer minister in your context) and the Bishop’s team.
  • Regular opportunities to meet the Diocesan Director of Ordinands, to help you explore the possibility of ordination, if that is relevant to you.
  • The chance to experience life and ministry in the Church of England, equipping you for your future life and ministry wherever you find yourself.
  • Life in community, with like-minded young adults, living, learning and serving together – sharing experiences, and joining in formal and informal activities, including meals, social activities, talks and an annual retreat.
